Lesson 12: Nouns Of Address And Nouns In Apposition

Grammar Lesson 12 - Nouns of Address and Nouns in Apposition
"A Noun of Address is used to name a person or thing addressed, or spoken to, and has no relation to the other words in the sentence."

Marie has returned to the cottage to wash her hands. She uses a vase that was a gift from one of her students as a prop to demonstrate how nouns of address are used. She then heads out to her garden with clippers and a basket to cut and gather some flowers.  "Apposition means placed beside. The noun in apposition, called an appositive, identifies or explains the noun or pronoun preceding it." In the garden Marie uses different colored carnations to exemplify a noun in apposition.
