Lesson 1: Verbals - The Infinitive (7:14)

Verbals - The Infinitive"Verbals are forms of verbs that can express action, possession, or existence, but do the work of nouns, adjectives, or adverbs.  Verbals may have all the uses of a verb, except they may not be used as the main predicate of a clause or sentence.  There are three verbals: the infinitive, the gerund, and the participle.  In this lesson we will discuss the infinitive."  Marie sips tea before a comforting fire while working to solve a beautiful, hand-crafted, wooden puzzle.  She utilizes the puzzle to provide examples of an infinitive used as a subject, an object, and a subject modified by an adverb.  Finally, she demonstrates how infinitives are inflected for tense.  She completes the whimsical puzzle, revealing two orcas swimming towards the sun.  "Learning intermediate grammar is like solving a puzzle - you struggle to connect all the pieces, until finally the bigger picture becomes clear."
