verbals - the gerund"The gerund is a verb form ending in 'ing' that does the work of both a verb and a noun.  The gerund is a verbal noun that can be a subject, an object, or an object of the preposition."

Marie is sewing appliques onto her Cub Scouting campfire blanket.  She uses this gentle activity to provide examples of gerunds used as the subject, the object, and the object of the preposition. She then demonstrates how gerunds are inflected or changed for tense.
