"Nouns are naming words." Marie is shaking out a white linen table cloth and smoothing it over her dining table in preparation for a dinner party. "Setting the table is a great time to talk about nouns." Using place cards, napkins, china plates, sterling silver knives, forks and spoons, cut crystal stem ware and vases, fresh flowers, coffee cups and saucers, Marie uses the process of setting the table for an elegant dinner to provide us with a way of recognizing the people, places, things and qualities that nouns name, then goes on to explain the difference between proper nouns and common nouns, and singular nouns and plural nouns.
